Santa Anita has honored Hall of Fame Rider Eddie Delahoussaye with his own stakes race on Opening Day of the Autumn Meet.
Delahoussaye known to most racing fans as simply Eddie D, (which will be the name of the stakes) was known as one of the best in handling horses who liked to come from behind in their races.
Formerly known as the Morvich Stakes, the race is for 3 yr. olds down the unique hillside turf course. The distance is listed at “about” 6-1/2 furlongs.
Santa Anita is in the process of renaming the stakes races that belonged to the Oak Tree Racing Association, which operated the fall meet through 2009.
